Two Scammers Arrested for €6,000 Scam with a Simple Text and Call

The National Police of Alicante arrested a 27-year-old woman of Spanish nationality in Madrid and a 22-year-old man of Moroccan nationality in Algeciras. Both are allegedly involved in a scam committed by telephony in which the victim’s loss amounts to 6,167.16 euros.

The investigation began after the victim learned of the facts at the police stations. She had received a message on her mobile phone supposedly from her bank, informing her that they were carrying out fraudulent transactions and that she should click on a link attached to the SMS to consult them.

After following the link, he received a call from a supposed bank employee, who told him that he was going to send him several messages with codes, which he had to enter in his application to avoid fraudulent transfers, although he later discovered that it was a scam and, thanks to the codes, she had transferred 6,167.16 euros in two different accounts.

The judicial police managed to identify and locate the people involved who resided in Madrid. After the appropriate procedures, the woman involved was arrested in the same capital. Shortly after, the man was located at the border post of Costs (Cadiz), also proceeding to his arrest.

The detainees were placed at the disposal of the permanent investigating courts in Madrid and Algeciras respectively, with the entire investigation being transferred to the permanent investigating court in Elda.
