Two years in prison for making a man believe he had inherited $9.3 million from a deceased person in China

The convict led another man to believe that he was the guardian of a $9.3 million inheritance left by a man who died in an earthquake in China in 2008.

The sentence includes the agreement reached before the trial between the prosecution and the defense, by which the accused admitted the facts and declared himself the author of a continuing crime of falsification of commercial and official documents in connection with a crime of fraud. He accepted the sanctions requested by them.

The facts They date back to November 2018when the accused sent the victim a letter in which he identified himself as a lawyer and in which he informed him that he could accept an inheritance of 9.3 million euros deposited in a safe in Spain by a citizen who died in an earthquake in China in 2008.

However, he warned him of the need to make various cash payments in order to release the inheritance and send the money to his bank account of which he was the beneficiary in Canada.

The judgment assesses the combination of mitigating circumstances of excessive delay and partial compensation for the damage, since the convicted person had registered one thousand euros before the hearing to satisfy part of the 5,820 euros that he must pay to the victim as civil liability.

However, as stated in the court decision, the injured party paid for this same fraud on bank accounts available to other alleged fraudsters who have not been located because their whereabouts are unknown, other amounts that in total exceed the 122,000 euros.
