The University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) and the Provincial Council of Toledo presented this Monday a “world pioneer” projectwhich will even be transmitted to FIFA, on the management of artificial turf football pitches for the future ban on the use of rubber on these surfaces.
A presentation attended by the president of the Provincial Council, Concepción Cedillo, and the vice-rector for Promotion and Communication of UCLM, Leonor Gallardo, who specified that up to 16 areas of the province of Toledo have been studied in this initiative.
Gallardo explained that a change is taking place in these areas due to the predicted disappearance of rubber and that the study focused on the state of affairs before an audit decides what to do with it.
“She was a pioneer not in Spain, but in the whole world. In fact I will present this report to FIFA so that they know the first steps to take,” said the vice-rector.
This Monday, an individual report was given to each mayor of the municipalities where the fields studied are located, as well as an information poster on the type of shoes to use on each surface, which constitutes “one of the big problems”.
The recommendations, Gallardo added, focus particularly on the maintenance of the fields: “Often we invest a lot of money, especially in the Administration, but we do not remember the next day when things have to be maintained, and we continue to see that it is not properly maintained.
For his part, Cedillo thanked the UCLM for this initiative, affirming that the Provincial Council “is here to support and approve this new project.”
