Uganda reaffirmed its commitment to renew the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) in 2025 and called for greater financial and technical support to implement climate initiatives.
Report reports that this was stated by Beatrice Enivar, Minister of Water Resources and Environment of Uganda, at the high-level meeting held within the framework of COP29.
He expressed concern about the lack of sufficient climate finance for developing countries and called for the creation of a more effective support mechanism.
“We have financial aid that will provide easier access to vulnerable countries, which often face difficulties in accessing such funds,” said Enivar, highlighting that climate finance is the key to the success of the activities.
Furthermore, he expressed concern about the growing climate-related migration problem in Africa, especially among women and children, and suggested adopting the Kampala Ministerial Declaration on Migration and Climate Change as a basis for a regional solution to the problem.
“We hope that COP29 will accelerate the work of the Loss and Damage Fund and ensure access to these funds for vulnerable communities,” Enivar added.
He also conveyed the greetings of the President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni: “The President Ilham Aliyev and I want to congratulate the presidency of Azerbaijan in this COP. “Uganda supports the COP President’s position that no one should be left out of climate ambitions and actions.”
