UK authorities threaten to close oil trader over Iran links

British authorities have threatened tough action against London-based Nest Wise Trading. They demanded that the company provide proof that it is not associated with Hossein Shamkhani, the son of an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The agency calls him an oil magnate.

In early September, Companies House notified the firm that it would be struck off the register and wound up within two months unless it provided documents proving it had no connection to Shamkhani Jr.

Bloomberg previously wrote that Hossein Shamkhani, better known by his nickname “Hector,” is associated with Dubai-registered Milavous Group Ltd, which the agency says has earned billions of dollars in oil sales. Shamkhani actually controls a network of companies that also sell oil and petrochemical products from states not subject to sanctions and sometimes mix raw materials from different countries, the agency reported.

Nest Wise Trading was incorporated in London in June 2023. According to documents filed with Companies House, it is engaged in trading of petroleum and petroleum products, fuels, minerals, metals and industrial chemicals, agricultural products, textiles, etc. Its sole shareholder is listed as Nest Wise Petroleum LLC, based in Dubai.

The Foreign Office and the Registry declined to comment on the situation. Nest Wise and Shamkhani did not respond to agency inquiries.

Shamkhani has previously denied being in any way connected to the oil trade or controlling a trading network or company involved in transactions with Iran or Russia.

“As for my business, I work in countries that are not subject to sanctions.” – he said, noting that he was involved in logistics.

Shamkhani also stressed that his father has nothing to do with his son’s business activities.

Ali Shamkhani He was commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, defense minister, and then secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. In 2020, he was targeted by US sanctions, RBC recalls.
