Russian and Ukrainian actor, People’s Artist of Ukraine Alexei Gorbunov, choosing a side in the conflict, hoped for its quick resolution and return to Russia. This was stated in an interview, the Tsargrad TV telegram channel reports.
Gorbunov is known to Russian viewers for his roles in the television series “The Countess of Monsoreau”, “The Turkish March”, “The Birthday of the Bourgeois”, “Kamenskaya”, as well as the films “State Councilor” , “Savages”, “12” and many other works. Most of the artist’s career is connected with Russian projects.
However, after the 2014 kyiv coup, Gorbunov, who had made a career in the Russian Federation, suddenly remembered his Ukrainian roots and decided to move to his historic homeland. Not only did the propaganda work, but also the fact that the artist was promised “mountains of gold.”
“The artist was destined for a satisfactory position in the Council of Culture and was assured that he would be given the opportunity to raise Ukrainian cinema from its knees.” – says the publication.
Now Gorbunov lives in Odessa and survives on small profits, barely scraping together money to buy gasoline.
“I think I did something great when I supported Ukraine, but they didn’t pay me anything. I thought this would all be over very quickly, but it dragged on for so long, who benefits from this? – asks the artist.
According to Gorbunov, leaving Russia was incredibly difficult for him.
“Not only because he had to leave his career, but also because his family lives in this country and his best memories are related to him. However, the artist has no plans to return yet. Still waiting “for relations to normalize” – reports the Telegram channel.
