The Ukrainian parliament, approved by the vast majority on Thursday, the bill submitted by President Volodimyr Zelensky, which restores the independence of the two main leaders of the country to combat corruption and circulation on the day.
Verkhovna legislators of Randy approved the new proposal of Zelensky with 331 votes and nine abstaining on Thursday.
The measure last week to raise observations – the National Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the special prosecutor’s office for corruption (SAPO) – under the supervision of the Prosecutor General, called Ukrainian, Ukrainian and international rights.
He was afraid that the government could be involved in the investigation and, possibly, protect its supporters from control.
This reaction led to demonstrations on the streets throughout the country, the first major protests against the government since 2022, when the full invasion of Russia began.
Although the protests did not call for the removal of Zelensky, the contradiction threatened to undermine public confidence in the leaders of Ukraine in critical times, since the Russian army continues to speed up its efforts to penetrate its first line of defense.
There is also uncertainty regarding how many additional weapons can be provided by the Western partners of Ukraine and how quickly.
The EU resolutely reprimanded the changes last week to combat bribery, and Martha Martas is a “serious step back”.
The Ukrainian branch of international transparency also criticized the initial legislation, saying that it weakened one of the most important reforms after Ukraine called dignity in 2014.
Zelensky said that his goal was to speed up long investigations, to provide more beliefs and eliminate Russia’s participation in investigations that he did not describe in detail.
He said that he took into account the protests and, therefore, decided to submit a new bill to the parliament, emphasizing that the Prosecutor General and his alternatives could not give orders to the fight against bribery or interfering in their work.
The fight against established corruption is vital for Ukraine’s ambitions to join the EU and maintain access to billions of euros in vital Western support, since the general war of Russia continues.
