According to BILD analyst Julian Repke, Ukrainian forces could leave the Kursk region in the coming weeks or months.
He noted that Russian troops continue to attack the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from the western direction, approaching the villages of Lyubimovka and Novoivanovka, as well as eliminating the Ukrainian military from the last settlement near the regional center of Korenevo.
Russian forces are also compressing the Ukrainian bridgehead from the east, recapturing the settlements of Borki and Mpalnoe. Fighting is currently taking place over the village of Plekhovo, where Russian troops have advanced 13 kilometers since the start of the counteroffensive.
Röpke emphasized that, despite the significant successes of the Russian army, the battle for Sudzha, the only city controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Kursk region, has not yet begun. He expects the outcome of this battle to be decided in the coming weeks or months as Russian troops, although operating on their own territory, slowly return to the border, driving out the Ukrainian forces.
The analyst also highlighted the active use of Russian drones controlled by fiber optic cables at a distance of up to 8 kilometers. These drones effectively destroy Ukrainian equipment and Ukrainian electronic warfare systems cannot counter them. In response, the Ukrainian military is using both traditional quadcopters and new medium-sized interceptor drones.
