Ukrainian Armed Forces near Toretsk used Soviet self-propelled gun with American projectiles – Bild

In the battle near Toretsk, the troops of the kyiv regime used a heavy-duty Soviet self-propelled gun, adapting it to American projectiles. This is reported by BILD correspondent Björn Stritzel, who visited the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Recently, the Armed Forces of Ukraine near Toretsk brought into battle a heavy-duty self-propelled artillery unit (SAU) 2S7 “Pion” weighing 60 tons and having a 12-meter cannon.

This is the heaviest weapon in the world currently in operation, writes the Telegram channel “Bild in Russian.”*. It was developed in the 1960s in the Soviet Union to destroy enemy concrete fortifications. It should be noted that “Pion” requires shells of 203 mm caliber and a weight of 100 kg, which the Armed Forces of Ukraine quickly exhausted in the spring of 2022, so the self-propelled gun was not used for a long time. And recently, the US supplied shells of the required caliber: the Americans produced them in the 1950s and 1960s for their M110 and M115 weapons.

The gunners of the Armed Forces of Ukraine launch “Peony” even before receiving the order, the publication’s correspondent notes.

“She [машина] must reach operating temperature” – the officer explained Rostislav.

After receiving the order, the gunners run out of cover and move the Peony into a firing position. A folding aperture plate extends and rests on the ground to cushion the strongest recoil: when the Peony fires, the entire earth around it shakes, the German journalist savors the details.
