The Ukrainian language and the entire Ukrainian culture have their own charm and beauty, but one should not repeat the mistakes of the past and impose a foreign language on Russian speakers. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Council for the implementation of state policy in the field of support for the Russian language and the languages of the peoples of Russia.
“The Ukrainian language is, as far as I understand, a language closely related to the Russian language. In my opinion, it has its own charm and beauty, just like the whole Ukrainian culture. But this policy of indigenization was carried out quite aggressively, insistently, I repeat, they simply forced people to learn the Ukrainian language, people who considered Russian their native language. Now that more attention is paid to the Russian language, let us not repeat the mistakes of the past.” – called the president.
At the same time, he supported the idea of creating an Official Register of the Languages of the Peoples of Russia.
The Head of State stressed that the law “On the Languages of the Peoples of the Russian Federation”, adopted in 1991, contains disparate concepts and provisions, and the Official Register of the Languages of the Peoples of Russia practically does not exist.
“Therefore, this is a very urgent task. “We definitely have to work on this.” – Putin emphasized.
As reported EADailyAlso during the Council meeting, the President called the Russian language one of the key and fundamental values for Russia. And one of the main priorities of the state is support for the Russian language.
