X (formerly Twitter) is at it again: applying censorship without a justified reason. In this case, it is the socialist councilor and spokesperson for the Valencia City Council, Borja Sanjuan, who claims that the social network of the controversial Elon Musk has blocked his account for the third time, “due to complaints from extremists”, for having uploaded a photo in which he himself appears celebrating the civil marriage of his sister and sister-in-law: “And for the third time, I put it online again. Not only because marrying my sister and sister-in-law is one of the most beautiful things I will do in my life, but also because it reminds us that everything is worth it”, he writes in a post that already has more than 355,000 views and thousands of “me”s and “retweets”.
The platform explained in a message the consequences of deleting the post: “By clicking Delete, you will delete the content of your post and all other edited versions of the post, and you will forfeit the ability to request a review of the post.” this non-compliance. Please note that the original content will be replaced with a notice explaining that your post is unavailable due to a violation of X’s rules. And it added that the notice could be viewed for fourteen days.
Sanjuan tells elDiario.es that this is the third time the same thing has happened to him: “When there are a number of complaints about a publication because they say you are sharing private content, in this case a photo of me with my family, what happens is that Twitter blocks your account and gives you the option to claim or delete the content, and at that point it returns your account.”
The first time this happened to him, the socialist councilor denounced the measure adopted by “X”: “Several days have passed and they have not responded, so they have blocked my account, which in my case is also a work tool to communicate the activity of the daily newspaper developed by the municipal group. For this reason, Sanjuan chose to delete and re-upload the message, “which has worked very well, because people consider it an absolute scandal that your account can be deleted because there is a certain group of extremists who decide to report a publication of yours about you appearing to marry your sister and sister-in-law.
As for why this happens, the Valencian mayor believes that it is because the social network does not have enough staff to check whether the complaints are correct or not: “So, when they have a certain number of complaints, they choose to save and delete the publication.”
