Unemployment in the Canary Islands increases by 0.52% to 159,498 unemployed

In October, the Canary Islands added a total of 159,498 unemployedwhich represents 828 more people and an increase of 0.52%. On the other hand, in annual terms, there are 13,672 fewer unemployed, or -7.90% compared to the same month of 2023.

Unemployment in October increased the most in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, it was added. 77,169 people unemployed, 794 more, an increase of 1.04% compared to September. For its part, compared to 2023, there are 5,861 fewer, or -7.06%. In Las Palmas, the number of unemployed rose to 82,329, which translates to 34 more unemployed, 0.04%, although 7,811 fewer people, -8.67% compared to October 2023.

The most affected sector was agriculturewhich accumulates 159,498 unemployed, while 5,837 unemployed were counted in industry, 14,114 in construction and 123,579 in the services sector. In addition, 13,317 correspond to people without previous employment.

In the Canary Islands they signed 72,218 new contracts9,440 more, an increase of 15.04% compared to September, and 8,652 more than the same month of 2023, or 13.61% more, with 31,265 permanent, (+2.73%) and 40,953 temporary (+16.86%).

In agriculture 1,120 contracts were signed, in industry 2,288, in construction 3,293 and in the service sector 65,517.
