Unemployment increases for the second month in Castile and Leon, which loses 973 workers

This summer, unemployment increased for the second consecutive month in Castile and León. Public employment services registered 973 new unemployed people compared to the previous month (0.95 percent), bringing the number of unemployed to 103,166, according to data published by the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy.

This is the sixth highest increase in unemployment in the country, above the average of 0.86 percent. However, the total number of unemployed is the lowest figure for the month of August since 2007. Since the beginning of the comparable historical series, in 1996, August has been a month when unemployment has traditionally increased. It has done so 15 times compared to 13 times when it has been relegated.

However, unemployment has accumulated a decrease of 4,570 unemployed, or 4.2 percent less, slightly below the average, which fell by 4.83 percent.

It should be noted that the summer is coming to an end and it is in the services sector that unemployment has increased the most, with 763 more. It has also increased in industry (210); construction (123). On the other hand, it has decreased very slightly in agriculture, 97 less (-2.25%) and in the group of people without previous employment, 26 less (-0.23%).

At the end of the month, the sectors with the highest unemployment are services (73,137), without previous employment (11,170), while the sectors with the lowest unemployment are agriculture (4,206), construction (6,414) and industry (8,239).

In terms of gender, of the 103,166 unemployed registered in August, 62,145 were women, 527 more (0.9 percent more) and 41,021 were men, 446 more than the previous month (+1.1 percent).

By age, among young people under 25, unemployment increased by 171 people (+2.2%), while among those aged 25 and over, it increased by 802 unemployed (+0.85%).

All provinces were affected by this increase. In the lead, El Salamanca (225 additional unemployed), Burgos (197), Valladolid (124), León (105), Ávila (96), Palencia (96), Zamora (78), Soria (30) and Segovia (22).
