The technical mission of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) is visiting our country from 6 to 9 September with the aim of assessing the progress of the preparation process for the COP29 climate conference, which will be held in Baku from 11 to 22 November this year.
Oku.Az reports that the press office of the Azerbaijan COP29 Operating Company published information on this matter.
On the first day of the visit, Head of Mission Wasim Mir, Director of the UNFCCC Conference Affairs Department, met with Narmin Jarchalova, Chairperson of the COP29 Azerbaijan Operating Company Board and Chief Operating Officer.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the status of a number of intensive operational processes, the territorial division of the event space for various purposes and other organizational issues in the framework of the preparation of the prestigious event.
At the same time, UN Department of Safety and Security representative Kevin O’Hanlon met with relevant COP29 representatives and exchanged views on measures taken to ensure the security of the conference. Later, the members of the mission visited Baku Stadium, the venue of the event. Here they learned about the completed and ongoing construction and operational processes.
On the second day of the trip, the delegation also attended a briefing organized by the Azerbaijan COP29 Operating Company for members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan on the preparation process and event plans for the international climate conference.
It should be noted that in order to cover all aspects of the preparatory process within the framework of the three-day visit, meetings of the representatives of the relevant mission with the heads of the relevant structures of COP29 Azerbaijan Co. and various state institutions will continue at the venue. In addition, it is planned to visit various locations in order to assess the accommodation, food and transportation opportunities created in the city for the numerous delegates who will attend the conference. Thus, representatives of the technical mission are expected to visit hotels and residences in the capital to determine whether the created conditions and opportunities meet the relevant requirements and to learn about the opportunities available in the field of nutrition and catering services.
