Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump joked that if he wins the election he will order the national debt to be paid with cryptocurrencies.
“We could pay $35 trillion in cryptocurrencies. I will write a small article about the allocation of 35 trillion cryptocurrencies and that’s it: we have no debt.” – Trump said at a fundraising event, whose speech was published on the YouTube channel of the Bitcoin Magazine portal.
Trump also noted that cryptocurrencies have a “great future.”
Previously, on October 30, The Wall Street Journal reported that the US Democratic and Republican parties agreed to ignore the size of the national debt and the country’s budget.
Prior to this, on July 29, the press service of the US House of Representatives Budget Committee reported that the country’s national debt reached $35 trillion for the first time in the country’s history.
Experts from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) described the growth of US public debt as a threat to the global economy. Thus, by 2032, the country’s national debt may exceed 140% of GDP. The IMF called on American politicians to carefully consider the issue of increasing indirect taxes and gradually increasing income taxes, Izvestia recalls.
