United States recognizes Edmundo González Urrutia as president-elect of Venezuela

USA recognized this Tuesday for the first time in public to the opponent Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia as president-elect of Venezuela after the July 28 elections.

“The Venezuelan people spoke out forcefully on July 28 and named Edmundo González president-elect. “Democracy requires respect for the will of the voters.”» Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on social media.

In the United States, Joe Biden’s administration recognized González Urrutia as the winner of the election, even though he had never done so openly in public until Tuesday.

Venezuela is going through a political crisis since the National Electoral Council (CNE) Maduro declared winner of July 28 elections based on results still unknown in a disaggregated manner, which is what the Unitary Democratic Platform (PUD) – the largest opposition bloc – considers. like a “fraud”by insisting on the “victory” of González Urrutia.
