The Junta de Andalucía appoints Miguel Delibes’ replacement who will coordinate the execution of the new plan agreed with the Spanish government
The Directing Council of the Junta de Andalucía has appointed the professor of biology of the University of Seville, Enrique Mateo, as president of the Doñana Participation Council, replacing the former president, Miguel Delibes.
In this position, he will be responsible for coordinating all management of the Doñana plan agreed between the central government and the Junta de Andalucía, the slowness and complexity of execution of which caused the departure of his predecessor.
The Minister of Sustainable Development, Catalina García, indicated that the appointment will be communicated in the coming weeks to the Doñana Participation Council with which no meeting took place before her appointment.
Enrique Mateo is a researcher and doctor of biological sciences focused on marsh ecosystems and their impact on climate change. According to the program proposed by the Andalusian Government, we are currently working on the development of a line of research on the restoration of degraded coastal ecosystems. He is also the author of more than 150 scientific publications, including 127 in prestigious international journals.
In the position he holds, he was preceded by the prestigious professor Miguel Delibes, who actively participated in the unblocking of the agreements between the government and the Junta of Andalusia on Doñana, and previously by the former president of the government, Felipe Gonzalez. .
