From this Tuesday, the Balearic Islands will face a new DANA coming from northern Europe which will cause heavy rain and storms throughout the archipelago. The islands are located in orange alert due to precipitation which can leave up to 40 liters of water per square meter in one hour and 100 liters in 12 hours.
In the case of Majorcathe alert will be at the yellow level in the interior, north and northeast of the island, where 20 liters of water could be recorded in one hour and 60 liters in 12 hours, according to Agency forecasts State Meteorological Service (Aemet). The worst of the storm could be borne by Serra de Tramuntana, south and east from Majorca.
However, the most affected islands will be Ibiza and Formentera. Since three in the morning, the Pitiusas have been on orange alert. A situation which will last until 12:00 p.m.
It should be noted that this mass of cold air which will move from northern Europe towards the southwest, causing a general drop in temperatures.

Severity Rating Enabled 1
Since this morning Severity Index 1 (IG1) remains enabled of the Special Plan to deal with the risk of adverse weather phenomena (Meteobal) and the operational situation (SO) 0 of Inunbal taking into account the forecasts of rains and storms throughout the archipelago.
It should be remembered that the Department of Education and Universities has clarified, through Gestib, to all management teams of the Balearic centers that all activities outside the center are suspended, in case they are programmed.
Furthermore, in accordance with the same action protocol, the Ministry recalled that course development can continue normally. However, the UIB asked to avoid travel to the headquarters of Pitiusas and Menorca, as well as internships in schools.
Recommendations in case of extreme rain
In these episodes, Civil Protection and Emergencies recommend reducing vehicle speed, taking extreme precautions and not stopping in areas where a large amount of water may flow. If you have to travel, it is advisable to travel preferably on major roads and motorways.
In the event of sudden thunderstorms and heavy rain, consideration must be given to where vehicles are parked. Rapidly rising water levels can damage vehicles parked in flood-prone areas and, furthermore, wash them away, causing damage to other people’s property and even impeding the natural flow of current.
If it starts to rain heavily, there is a risk of flooding. “Do not drive through flooded sections with your vehicle or on foot as you do not know what may be underwater and locate the highest points in the area. Don’t try to save your car in the middle of a flood. If you are in the countryside, you should stay away from rivers, streams and low areas of slopes and hills, avoiding crossing flooded fords. Likewise, you have to go to the highest points in the region,” he says.
Finally, if the storm surprises you in the countryside, avoid running and stay in high places, such as hilltops, ridges or divides. Do not shelter under trees and stay away from chain link fences and metal objects.
