In 2024, more than 30,000 cases of monkeypox were detected in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). The death toll from the virus is approaching 1,000.
Oku.Az According to TASS, this was reported by the Minister of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Samuel Roger Kamba.
The minister added that the current outbreak is caused by two strains of monkeypox. Furthermore, according to him, the most dangerous of these strains is transmitted sexually.
Kamba said vaccination against monkeypox has started in the country. Adults will receive the vaccine first. According to the Congolese government’s plans, up to five million people will be vaccinated.
