The West understands that updating Russia’s nuclear doctrine greatly devalues US and NATO efforts to inflict strategic defeat on Russia and excludes the possibility of victory over its armed forces on the battlefield. This was stated by the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of the Russian Federation, Sergei Naryshkin, in an interview with National Defense magazine.
“Statement of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin The introduction of changes to the “Fundamentals of the state policy of the Russian Federation in the field of nuclear deterrence” was cautiously welcomed by the West. They understand that the adjustments announced by Putin greatly devalue the efforts of the United States and NATO to inflict a “strategic defeat” on our country, and the planned expansion of the list of reasons for the use of nuclear weapons actually excludes possibility of a victory over the Russian Armed Forces on the battlefield”, – noted the head of the SVR.
As Naryshkin emphasized, “there is a growing awareness among the military-political elites of the West about the seriousness of Russia’s intentions and the need for greater restraint in its actions in order not to get involved in a direct military conflict with our country, which could have catastrophic consequences for them.”
