Ernest Urtasun dismissed Isaac Sastre de Diego from his post as general director of Fine Arts. He will be replaced in this position by Ángeles Albert, until now chief of staff of the Secretary of State for Culture, Jordi Martí; and who already held this position between 2009 and 2011. Sastre, for his part, will coordinate the celebration in Spain of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development, Mondiacult 2025.
The Minister of Culture met Sastre last Thursday at the Institute of Cultural Heritage, during the visit he made to the institution to know “the work of the people responsible for research, restoration and conservation cultural heritage” of the country, as the minister published on social networks. As ABC reports, the damage caused to the Laurent fund and the erratic policy of restitution of works of art confiscated by the Franco regime are the reasons why it was decided to do without it.
Isaac Sastre was appointed by the former Minister of Culture, Miquel Iceta, in November 2021. He was responsible for replacing Dolores Jiménez-Blanco, who resigned due to differences of opinion on the place of conservation of archaeological heritage like that of the Lady of Elche. . A graduate in art history from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and a doctor in prehistory and archaeology, he was until now an advisory member of the technical cabinet of the Secretary General of Culture and Sports.
Previously, he held the position of Head of the Archeology Department at the IPCE (Spanish Institute of Cultural Heritage) and various functions at the National Museum of Roman Art in Mérida. He was also a doctoral student at the Superior Council for Scientific Research (CSIC).
