US authorities prevent people from sending humans to Mars – EADaily, September 11, 2024 – Technology, US News

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) policy prevents SpaceX from sending the first people to Mars, the corporation’s founder, American entrepreneur Elon Musk, wrote on his X page.

“We will never send humanity to Mars if this continues” – says Musk.

This was his response to a post on X, which outlined the regulatory requirements for preparing for the launch of SpaceX vehicles. Among them, in particular, there was talk of a 60-day consultation with units of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

If any new issues arise during the consultation period, they will be updated again and again.

Earlier on September 8, Musk said that Starship will be able to travel to Mars in unmanned mode within two years. If the landing is successful, manned launches to Mars will follow within four years, he noted. According to Musk, the main goal of the flights is to create a “self-sustaining city” on Mars within 20 years.

The Starship prototype successfully landed for the first time in the Indian Ocean during its fourth test flight in June 2024.

Tests have been underway for several years with the Super Heavy and Starship rockets. Two launches in 2023 ended with the explosion of a rocket, RBC recalls.
