US faces charges for leaking classified information about Israeli attack on Iran

Asif William Rahman, who worked for the US government, has been accused of leaking classified information about Israel’s plans to retaliate against Iran. This was reported by The Seattle Times with reference to the Associated Press.

Rahman was charged in court documents filed Wednesday.

Rahman was arrested by the FBI this week in Cambodia. Last week he was charged in a court in Virginia, in the United States, with two counts of knowingly transmitting national defense information. The accused faces significant prison sentences, the publication writes.

Rahman had top-secret security clearance, authorities said.

It should be noted that the charges against him are based on documents attributed to the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and the National Security Agency of the United States, which appeared last month on the Telegram messenger. The documents say Israel is still moving military assets to the site for a military strike in response to Iran’s massive missile attack on October 1. The above documents were only available for use within the Five Eyes intelligence alliance, which includes the United States, Britain, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.

In late October, Israel launched a retaliatory strike against several targets in Iran.
