US officials are sending additional forces to Alaska because they believe Russia and China are becoming more active in the region.
Oku.Az It is reported with reference to TASS.
The US military is reportedly gradually increasing its presence near Alaska, and a military unit equipped with a destroyer and a long-range missile system has been sent there at a time when tensions are rising off the coast of Alaska due to increased military activities by Russia and China.
“Russia and China have begun to conduct more frequent exercises in the region,” said Republican Senator (Alaska) Dan Sullivan, who is urging the US government to develop military infrastructure in Alaska.
The North American Joint Aerospace Defense Command said on Sept. 13 that it had tracked the flight of two Russian military aircraft near Alaska. They did not enter U.S. or Canadian airspace, but remained in international airspace.
