US to announce massive aid package for kyiv, but arms shipments delayed – CNN – EADaily, September 20, 2024 – Military News, Ukraine News

The United States is expected to announce a major military aid package for Ukraine next week, but arms shipments are likely to be delayed due to stock shortages, CNN reported on the matter citing two US officials.

The upcoming arms package, “which will likely include artillery, air defense and other critical munitions,” is expected to be significantly larger than its predecessor, which “has hovered around $200 million in recent months,” the TV channel reports.

The United States will lose the ability to quickly provide $5.8 billion in military assistance to Ukraine by the end of September if Congress does not extend the Pentagon’s authority to use resources under the Presidential Drawdown Authority program, AP reported earlier.

Earlier this week, CNN reported that the US was providing smaller military aid packages to Ukraine as the stockpile of weapons and equipment the Pentagon is willing to send to kyiv from its own arsenals has dwindled.

“But faced with the possibility of running out of funds, the US could now take a different approach and announce large military aid packages that will take months to deliver.” – the television channel notes.
