US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said on Tuesday that Iran had sent short-range ballistic missiles to Russia and threatened new sanctions over the move, which plunged Tehran further into the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. Blinken reportedly said that further sanctions, including measures against Iran Air, would be announced on Tuesday. “We warned Tehran openly and secretly that this step would be a dangerous escalation,” Blinken stressed. He added that Russia has already purchased these missiles. According to the politician, Moscow will use them within a few weeks.
Iranian officials have denied supplying weapons to Russia this week. But these powerful weapons are bolstering Moscow’s arsenal at a turning point in Moscow’s war with Ukraine, as kyiv advances deep into Russia but faces setbacks in the east.
