US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on Israel to support the second phase of polio vaccination in the Gaza Strip.
“There is an urgent need to complete the process in the coming days. We count on Israel’s cooperation in this matter. To complete this campaign, we need to carry out a second round of vaccination. This must be carried out within a certain period of time after of the first round,” Blinken said.
The second phase of vaccination in Gaza began on October 14, but was soon suspended. According to the Secretary of State, the United States closely monitors Israel’s compliance with its obligations, including humanitarian assistance issues.
He noted that although progress has been made, it is not enough. Efforts are made every day to persuade Israel to honor its commitments and ensure that aid reaches those who need it.
Previously, Cursor wrote that State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said that since the United States sent Israel a warning that continued security could be at risk without significant efforts to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the actions of Jerusalem have been insufficient and ineffective.
There are cases where the military denies permits to aid workers to work in Gaza, as well as situations where permits are granted but not to officers on the ground.
Furthermore, Cursor has already reported that Israel has initiated several measures aimed at easing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. According to US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller, these actions were taken after the Biden administration sent a warning to Israeli authorities.
