Valencia expands its air connectivity with direct flights to Reykjavík and a new connection with Copenhagen

The city of Valencia continues to improve its air connectivity with a new direct route to Reykjavik, Iceland. From May 2025, the Icelandic airline PLAY It will offer two weekly flights, on Thursdays and Sundays, which will connect the city directly to the Icelandic capital. Flights between Valencia and Reykjavík are now available for booking on the official PLAY website with promotional launch offers aimed at attracting the first travelers.

The negotiations to open this direct connection have been the result of months of work. The Visit València Foundation has participated in key trade fairs in the sector such as FITUR and Europe Routeswhere negotiations began with the airline. Finally, a delegation from PLAY visited the city in July this year to see for themselves the tourist potential of Valencia.

For his part, SAS Airlines also announced this week the opening of a new route with Copenhagen, improving Valencia’s connectivity with the Danish capital with two weekly frequencies, on Tuesdays and Saturdays. This new route will operate between May and October and from today you can buy tickets to fly between the two cities. Thanks to this, short and two-way connections between other European destinations will also increase, such as Oslo, Stockholm or Gothenburg, among others, also allowing long connections with the rest of the destinations operated by SAS Airlines, among which the United States.

The efforts promoted by the Visit the Valencia Foundation thanks to your program Fly Valencia, whose priority strategy is to diversify the source markets of tourism to the city and to improve connections with certain interesting markets due to their committed profile.

An opportunity in two directions

The advisor for tourism, innovation and investment acquisition, Paula Llobetstressed that these new routes significantly improve connectivity with the Nordic countries, one of the objectives of the Visit València Foundation’s connectivity strategy. “The new connections position Valencia as an attractive and nearby destination for Danish and Icelandic tourists who, in general, have high purchasing power, are interested in the cultural offering and are responsible visitors committed to sustainable development.”

For his part, the CEO of the airline PLAY, Einar Örn Ólafsson, stressed that the new connection with Iceland “will strengthen cultural and economic exchanges between Valencia and Reykjavík, promoting tourism in both directions.”

The new routes are added to the recent announcement of AIR BALTIC, which will also connect Valencia with Vilnius, Lithuania, during the next summer season 2025, thus reinforcing the city’s position as a growth pole in the European market. In this way, Valencia continues to consolidate its commitment to strategic international markets, opening new doors to Northern Europe for both travelers and citizens interested in these countries.
