THE Municipal Transport Company (EMT) Valencia decided prevent electric scooters from accessing their buses. The reason is afraid that the batteries of one of these scooters will explode. The measure therefore aims preserve the safety of passengers and employees of the EMT. The decision of the Valencia EMT is in line with what has already been adopted in other localities in Spain.
Thus, from November 4, 2023, the electric scooters They cannot travel on Madrid’s regional transport system due to passenger safety concerns. That is, for the same reason as the time indicated by the EMT.
In the case of the city of Valencia, the plenary session of the Board of Directors of the EMT of Valencia, which is held this Friday, will ask the City Hall to implement a change in the regulations for the provision of transport services on the EMT buses for ban access to electric scooters.
As explained by the president of EMT Valencia and advisor for Mobility Jesus Carbonell: “We don’t want any risk on the buses.” Carbonell said that after “recent battery explosions” in some of these personal mobility vehicles, there is “a general consensus to limit or veto their access to public transportation.”
However, the presence of electric scooters on the buses of the Municipal Transport Company of Valencia is rare, as this company’s vast network extends over a large part of Valencia. Thus, it happens that according to the latest surveys carried out to find out the customer satisfaction index (CSI), only 16 people out of the 7,760 surveys carried out responded that they accessed the network by scooterwhich represents only 0.2% of the total.
