Valladolid will dedicate a street or square to Juan Antonio Jiménez Muñoz ‘Jeros’, the soul of Los Chichos, who will thus be recognized by the Town Hall of his hometown. The initiative, On the proposal of the Municipal Socialist Group, it was approved by the Finance Commission, in which the VTLP also voted for, while the PP opposed and Vox abstained.
“The city of Valladolid is indebted to the artist Juan Antonio Jiménez Muñoz, “Jeros”, soul of one of the groups that has sold the most millions of records in the history of music in Spain”, indicates the text of the motion, in which it was also remembered that it was popularly known as “the one in the middle of Los Chichos”. So much so that it gave birth to the title of a song by the Estopa duo.
Even though he was in Madrid, “Jeros” always boasted of being from Valladolid. He has referred to Valladolid in interviews and also in his songs. In the song “How nice that they love you”, he sings: “I was born in Old Castile, I am one hundred percent gypsy”. In fact, part of his family still lives in Delicias.
As detailed by the socialists of Valladolid in a press release. “There are many people who live in Valladolid and who still keep ‘Jeros’ in their memory as an indelible musical reference. Their songs, most of them great successes, bear witness to part of the social chronicle of a unique era in the history of our country: the Transition and the first part of the current democratic stage.
The Municipal Socialist Group also recalls that “Jeros” always boasted of being from Valladolid, even if the sudden death of his father forced him to emigrate to Madrid at the age of seven. He was a composer and singer for the rumbero trio Los Chichos in the 1970s and 1980s, then in the 1990s he launched his solo career.
“It is important that our city, cradle of great cultural figures, adds ‘Jeros’ to its list of illustrious figures and recognizes this artist from Valladolid, given that he was a sensitive and generous genius, who knew how to express himself with a resounding success in his words “thoughts and feelings that have permeated an important part of our society”, also underlines the initiative, which will be debated in plenary session on November 25.
The presentation of this initiative by the socialists comes a day after the announcement of the call for a rally next Sunday to protest the dedication of a square to the popular former mayor of Valladolid, León de la Riva. An initiative from the Town Hall announced by the current first mayor, Jesús Julio Carnero, and which he defended again yesterday because “he deserves to be recognized”.
