Venezuela warns Spain that it “will not tolerate an escalation of aggression”

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil warned Tuesday that the government “will not tolerate an escalation of aggression and interference by Spain”after a phone call with his counterpart, José Manuel Albares, during which he asked him to confirm the identity of the Two Spaniards arrested in this South American country, know where he is and what charges are brought against him.

The conversation, which took place at the request of the Spanish minister in order to obtain information about the Spanish government accused of being terrorists by the Venezuelan government, requested certainties about the detainees, “as provided for in the Vienna Convention,” according to Albares, who once again denied any link between the people indicated and the National Intelligence Center (CNI).

After confirming this call, Gil, who did not confirm whether he had responded to Albares’ request, insisted that The arrested persons are involved in terrorist actsas denounced by the prosecution and the president himself Nicolas Maduro.

“We have dismantled and exposed a terrorist plan, which sought to attack the people“, assassinate the president, the vice president and other officials, under the direction of an active American military officer and with people involved of Spanish origin who have been publicly identified by our Ministry of Interior, Justice and Peace,” he reiterated.

On the other hand, the Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs confirmed to Albares – as he assured – that the ignorance of “constitutional institutions is a red line”, and that the Maduro government “is willing to take measures that protect its sovereignty”.

We hope that the Spanish government will rectify this immediately, “We must unambiguously condemn terrorism and assume the commitments that correspond to it within the framework of international law,” Gil added.

The conversation between the two foreign ministers comes after Venezuela called its ambassador to Madrid, Gladys Gutiérrez, for consultations, and the Chavismo-controlled parliament urged the Maduro government to break off any type of relationship with Spain.
