Venezuelan government publishes image of Edmundo Gonzalez signing document recognizing Maduro’s victory

The Venezuelan government has released some images in which Edmundo González walks on the runway to board the plane that would take him to Spain accompanied by the Spanish ambassador.

They published these images a few hours after showing a letter in which Venezuelan opposition leader validates Nicolas Maduro’s controversial victory. And a few hours after Edmundo González himself assured that he had signed this letter “under duress” at the Spanish embassy to be able to leave the country.

According to the president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Jorge Rodríguez, “We were summoned by Mr. González Urrutia the day before his departure, the night before the night he left the country to give us this document.”

In the photos shared by the government, we see González Urrutia and the Spanish ambassador, alongside Maduro’s number two, his vice president Delcy Rodríguez and the president of the National Assembly. They see the opponent signing a document that they also exhibit, in which he recognizes Nicolas Maduro’s victory in the elections.

“Here, this man says that he complies with the decision of the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice,” insists Rodriguez.

This is the safe conduct, denounces Edmundo González, that he signed against his will and that can in no case be considered valid. “Either I signed or I suffered the consequences. There were very tense hours of coercion, blackmail and pressure,” said the Venezuelan opposition leader in a video he shared on his social networks this Wednesday.

Pressures, even threats, that he had already acknowledged upon his arrival in Madrid a few weeks ago. He claims to have signed because he thought he would be more useful in freedom. This Thursday The European Parliament recognised him as president legitimate of Venezuela with the votes of the ultras and the popular Europeans.
