Edmundo Gonzalezformer presidential candidate and flag-bearer of the largest opposition coalition in Venezuela, is currently traveling to Spain on a Spanish Air Force plane, the Foreign Minister confirmed on his social networks, Jose Manuel Albares.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs reports that the trip is being made at the request of Edmundo González himself and that “the Spanish government is committed to the political rights and physical integrity of all Venezuelans.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also confirmed in a statement that Edmundo González took off from Caracas to Spain on board a Spanish Air Force plane and that “the Spanish government has put in place the diplomatic and material means necessary for his transfer.”

For her part, the executive vice president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodriguezreported this Saturday that the leader of the largest opposition coalition, Edmundo González Urrutia, left Venezuela with a safe conduct granted “for the sake of tranquility and political peace”, after spending “several days” taking refuge in the embassy of Spain, a country that will grant him asylum.
“Today, September 7, the opponent Edmundo González Urrutia left the country, after having voluntarily taken refuge for several days in the embassy of the Kingdom of Spain in Caracas, and requested political asylum from this government,” the official wrote on his Instagram account.
