Venezuelan regime issues arrest warrant for opposition candidate Edmundo González

The Venezuelan regime has issued an arrest warrant for the opposition candidate in the recent elections, Edmundo GonzalezA court issued the order, following instructions from the Venezuelan prosecutor’s office, against the opposition leader, who declared himself the winner after the coup d’état carried out by Nicolas Maduro and carried out by the National Electoral Council (CNE), with results that neither the European Union, nor the United States, nor the main democracies of South America recognize.

The First Special Court of First Instance for Control Functions, competent in cases related to crimes associated with terrorism, ordered the arrest of González Urrutia for the alleged crimes of “usurpation of functions”, “forgery of a public document”, “incitement to disobedience of laws”, “conspiracy”, “sabotage to damage systems” and “association”, as confirmed by the Public Ministry on its Instagram social network account.

Previously, Deputy Prosecutor Luis Ernesto Dueñez had requested González’s arrest, a request that comes after the former opposition candidate failed to appear Friday at the headquarters of the prosecutor’s office, which is investigating him for publishing data on the Internet that would prove his victory in the June 28 elections, the third time he has refused to appear.

For her part, the leader of the opposition, Maria Corina Machadoassured that the Venezuelan government has “lost all sense of reality” due to its “threats against the elected president,” an action that “crosses a new line.”

“Maduro has lost all contact with reality. The arrest warrant issued by the regime to threaten elected president Edmundo González crosses a new line that only strengthens the determination of our movement. “Venezuelans and democracies around the world are more united than ever in our search for freedom,” he expressed on his account on the social network X.

The Public Ministry had already warned that if he did not appear, it would be understood that there was a “danger of flight” and a “danger of obstruction” of the investigation. The opposition has published documents demonstrating that González is the one who really won the nomination of July 28, to the detriment of the current president, Nicolás Maduro, supported by both the National Electoral Council (CNE) and the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) – two bodies controlled by Chavismo.
