Sumar ratified this Wednesday Veronica Martínez Barbero (Gijón, 44 years old) as spokesperson for the coalition in the Congress of Deputies to replace Íñigo Errejón. The MP for Pontevedra, right-hand woman of Yolanda Díaz and current spokesperson for the Labor Party, will take up her new role from November 14.
According to group sources, the decision was taken “unanimously by all the forces that make up the group”, immersed in a reconstruction process since the sexual assault scandal which forced its last spokesperson to resign .
Unknown to the general public outside of Congress, Martínez Barbero is one of the most reliable people of Yolanda Díaz, who chose her as general director of the Ministry of Labor in the previous legislature. Before entering government, she was president of the Galician Labor Relations Council since 2017, within the Xunta de Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
