“Very soon Europe will be at the epicenter of the storm” – Polish editor-in-chief on Trump’s victory

Further development of the European Union is possible if “we understand that the good times in Europe are coming to an end.” This opinion was expressed by the chief editor of the Polish information and analysis portal Onet, Bartosz Wenglarczyk, when commenting on Donald Trump’s victory in the elections.

According to the Polish journalist, today Europe has two options.

“One of them is to keep burying your head in the sand and pretend that nothing is going to change. This Europe can distort reality and continue to believe that Donald Trump will defend the values of the free world in negotiations with Putin. “This Europe can still believe, because it has been an economic power for 100 years, that it cannot change because Swiss watches, German cars and French champagne were, are and will always be the best.” — writes Bartosz Wenglarczyk.

The second option, according to my Polish colleague, is the following:

“The second possibility is that we realize that the good times in Europe are coming to an end. “Donald Trump will not be our friend, but at best a good trading partner, and NATO security guarantees have become a little less reliable.”

According to Wenglarczyk, “isolationism won tonight in the United States.”

“Trump will only intervene when he sees an opportunity to make money. Literally, because he has a debt of almost 2 billion dollars and will use the presidency to manage the family business.” – believes the Polish journalist.

The author predicts that “very soon Europe will find itself in the middle of a storm caused by Trump’s cruel decisions.”

“We will rush between the blows that the United States will deliver on the one hand and China on the other. The ambitions of individual prime ministers no longer matter: European countries are so small compared to two world powers that they will only count as a group. One by one, we will be devoured by Trump or by Xi.” – continued Vengliarchik.

But, in his opinion, today the biggest loser is Ukraine.

“Its destiny today is in the hands of Europe. Today, the responsibility for stopping Putin or not is in the hands of the Prime Minister and President of Poland, the Chancellor of Germany, the President of France and the leaders of all EU countries, from Portugal to Cyprus. Europe faces four very difficult years. “The sooner we realize that we can weather this storm simply by rowing together in the same direction, the better for all of us.” – concluded Bartosz Wenglarczyk.
