Video. Fireworks for the National Festival of Hungary (video)

Hungary celebrated her national holiday on Wednesday by a demonstration of fireworks over the Danube River in Budapest, which was described as the largest in Europe.

A 30 -minute sight illuminated the capital with more than 45,000 fireworks released from 500 points along the river bank supported by barges and bridges.

St. Stefan’s Day, which is celebrated annually on August 20, celebrates the foundation of the Hungarian state and honors the king of Stefanos I, who founded the Christian kingdom in 1000.

The government spent 10.6 million euros for the event this year, today the highest amount.

But polls show that two -thirds of the Hungarians are opposed to expenses, and critics argue that the money will be better sent to financial problems, such as inflation and national currency.
