Viscofanthe Navarrese company with a production center in Casedaannounced the construction of a self-consumption photovoltaic power plant in its center, which will be part of its decarbonization plan. The project, which adds to the company’s environmental commitment, is designed to avoid the emission of more than 50,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and will generate 269 jobs during its construction, in addition to 4 additional jobs when it comes into service.
He Government of Navarra described this initiative as “foral interest”considering that this is a key action both in terms of sustainability of the economic development. He industrial advisor, Mikel Irujounderlined the importance of the project, which will allow decarbonization of the industrial sector and optimize the energy costs of the company by integrating renewable energies into its production processes.
Viscofan, which has a workforce of 600 workers in its Cáseda center, explained that this project has a positive social impact in an area facing depopulation problems. Actually, 60% of employees of the company come from small Navarrese towns of less than 1,000 inhabitants.
The factory, which will be built in collaboration with Activate energywill include a photovoltaic self-consumption system and new electric boilers which will replace the gas consumed in industrial processes. This change will allow a significant reduction in CO2 emissionsestimated between 17,360 and 32,946 tons annual.
Viscofan also allocated part of the project income to benefit the local communityas part of a social and economic impact which includes the transfer of the common areas affected by the installation. Furthermore, the company has taken steps to obtain authorization from the General State Administration for its construction.
This new project reflects the commitment of Viscofan with the innovation and the sustainabilityand strengthens its role as economic engine in Navarre.
