Less than three weeks after DANA devastated many localities in the Valencian Community and caused 219 deaths, Compromís announced its intention to present a motion of censure to remove the popular Carlos Mazón from the presidency of the Valencian Generalitat.
But after the announcement comes reality. Compromís has only fifteen seats in the Autonomous Chamber and could add the 31 of the Socialists, who have declared that they will study their proposal; But the two parties have not yet reached a majority and would also need the votes of Vox, which hastened to categorically exclude any membership in this political movement.
“With the separatist parties, we are not even going to the end of the road,” concluded Santiago Abascal’s national spokesperson, José Antonio Fúster, present at a press conference in Madrid after the Parliament meeting. National Executive Committee (NEC) of Vox, the supreme body between the assemblies and in which, among others, the president of the Valencian Cortes, María de los Llanos Massó, has been present.
Vox claims that Mazón was “negligent” in handling the tragedy and that his explanations to the Valencian Parliament last week were “insufficient”. However, the focus is on the “criminal negligence” of Pedro Sánchez’s government.
As Fúster recalls, Vox demanded the creation of a commission of inquiry to the Autonomous Chamber to “get to the bottom of things”. But beyond that, they are not willing to join the political movements of left-wing parties against Carlos Mazonof which they were part of the government until their departure from all regional executives this summer for their management of illegal immigration.
