The tragedy of DANA which devastated the Valencian Community, leaving more than 200 dead, served as an ideal pretext for Vox to distance itself from other parties, launch itself once again against the central government and seek a new confrontation with the PP. of Alberto Núñez Feijóo, whom the far-right party has long accused of being “accomplice” of the PSOE and of not acting “like a real opposition”. In short, he took advantage of the tragedy to try to make political profit from the disaster.

The party led by Santiago Abascal has decided not to participate in the meetings that the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, holds with all the parties. She also does not participate in the summons of the mayor to the Valencia City Hall, where they continue to co-govern with the PP even though they have broken the pacts with them in all autonomy. There, Mazón de Vox’s criticisms are lukewarm, although they have recorded the request to open a “Commission of Inquiry into the Causes of Floods and the Consequences of Cold Drop Management”. If the initiative – which competes with another previously presented by Compromís – succeeds, those of Vox will request “the appearance of representatives of Public Administrations and the Consell, as well as experts on the subject” in order to “finally issue an opinion” . » but without demanding any political accountability while continuing to designate the central government as the main culprit.

Although he knows that the management of the disaster, as established by law, is the responsibility of the President of the Generalitat Valenciana, Carlos Mazón, Abascal has launched himself against the President of the Executive since the beginning of the crisis, by attacking the “negligent and “criminal action” of his government, and for not having declared a state of alarm, as Vox and PP ask him to do. As the days passed, Abascal’s messages from Madrid became louder and louder. This same Wednesday, in an interview with El Toro’s ‘Dando cane’ show, he claimed to have declared that Spain had a government “of psychopaths and unscrupulous people”, assuring that he had not not occupied by the Valencians “for political reasons”. “.

A few days ago, Abascal himself announced that he would file a complaint against the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, and other members of his cabinet for crimes of “reckless homicide” and “omission of the duty to ‘assistance’ after the DANA attack. . In a statement recorded from Vox headquarters, without journalists, Abascal made the announcement after meeting with his “work team” to analyze the consequences of the flood.

On Saturday, November 2, the leader of the far right launched a “message to the Nation” via his channel : “Sánchez is primarily responsible for not activating all state resources when it was still possible to save lives.” “In the face of one of the greatest disasters we have faced, in the face of so much evil and incompetence, and after the infamous appearance of the President of the Government, we cannot remain silent.”

A few days later, the Secretary General of Vox in Congress, José María Figaredo, accused the government, without any type of proof, of “concealing” and “hiding” “hundreds of mortal victims” of DANA and of refusing to “expel” them. a helping hand” to their families.

The far-right party has continued to echo hoaxes and false news, such as that Sánchez’s government “paralyzed for years the construction of infrastructure that could have prevented the tragedy”, or that it “rejected international aid as demonstrated by the French government.” Parliament, when there was still a chance to save lives. These, among many others. Abascal continued to accuse the president of the government of “deserting his functions”, of “not deploying the army on time” and of “demonizing the volunteers who gave a historic example of what the nation can do” .

The national spokesperson for Vox, in his last intervention after Monday’s meeting of the Political Action Committee, insisted on the responsibility for what happened in Valencia, at the Central Executive, for “having paralyzed the cleaning of canals and having favored the destruction of hydraulic infrastructures”. “. In another twist, Fúster criticized Sánchez for having “abandoned the Valencians from the first minute” in the face of a tragedy that “cost lives”, deaths which, according to him, could have been “avoidable if measures had been taken were taken with the intention of saving them.

Ignore Alvise and his overexposed cleaning slime

The truth is that the DANA tragedy gave Abascal the opportunity not only to establish his own profile, but also to distance himself from Feijóo with whom he has long had cold, if any, relations. At the same time, the leader of the far right wanted to clarify that he is following a different strategy from that exploited by the SALF MEP, Alvise Pérez, who, since entering politics, has revealed himself as a dangerous competitor of Vox. .

While the ultra agitator is permanently in the affected areas, overexploiting his image as a “volunteer” cleaning the mud and personally delivering aid to the victims, Abascal preferred to avoid the photo and has not yet visited any affected cities. , as he did. The Vox leader preferred to be visible at the head of the collection of humanitarian aid to alleviate the disaster from the Madrid town of Arganda del Rey. Some images that his supporters took care of quickly uploading to TikTok despite the fact that Abascal was supposed to go “incognito”.

At Vox headquarters, they continue to face strong pressure from activists and some public officials of the party who ask them to call for massive demonstrations throughout Spain against the government, as they did in other opportunities for amnesty or “corruption”. But the party leadership has weighed the issue and does not consider it appropriate to mobilize people now, at a time when Valencians are focused on progress.

Vox even wanted to dissociate itself from the serious incidents that occurred in Paiporta during the visit that Sánchez made to this “ground zero” to accompany kings Felipe VI and Letizia, during which Mazón also appeared. That day, a group of angry people and neighbors began insulting the procession, shouting “criminals” and “get out, get out” while throwing mud and some objects at them. The President of the Government received a shovel in the back and was evacuated from the scene by the Moncloa security services.

Later, this newspaper was able to verify that among those who participated in these serious incidents there were young people from the far-right group Revuelta, a youth brand promoted by Vox, which claimed responsibility for the action. This is the same far-right group that called last November for demonstrations against the amnesty at the PSOE headquarters on Ferraz Street in Madrid. Vox leaders participated in these demonstrations, such as Abascal himself and the Madrid deputy and municipal spokesperson for the capital’s City Hall, Javier Ortega Smith, who confronted the national police.

Furthermore, as soon as it became known that there were several detainees for the attack on Sánchez in Paiporta, the Vox union, Solidaridad, immediately offered its legal services to those potentially “detained or fined.” A few minutes later, the Granada deputy of this party, Jacobo Robatto Perote, shared a publication about the attack on the president with the following message: “Whoever threw it, don’t worry, I will bring you some a new one. tomorrow.”

According to training sources within this editorial staff, Vox management is considering additional measures it could take, without excluding the possibility of subsequently calling for demonstrations.

Despite his apparent caution not to agitate the street, Abascal did not hesitate to share this weekend a video in which a neighbor of Alfafar – one of the municipalities affected by the flood – shows her indignation at “the lack of security and abandonment” which they say suffer from institutions. The Vox leader does not file a complaint against Mazón but rather speculates on the need to undertake “a revolt against this criminal government”

Coinciding with this chaos and taking advantage of the victims’ anger, the far-right party A few days ago he recovered on social networks the request that Abascal had made some time ago to “hang Sánchez by the feet”. “Pedro Sánchez is a politician who has no moral limits, there will be a moment when people want to hang him by the feet,” he said in December last year. They now believe the time has come to reiterate this sinister message.
