Vox votes against the Burgos City Hall budget at the Finance Commission after the PP returned aid to NGOs that work with migrants and which it had excluded at the request of the far-right party. The opinion issued by the Commission is negative and the final vote on the budget project – which will include the positions of ACCEM, Burgos Acoge and Atalaya Intercultural – will take place this Friday during the municipal plenary session.

The configuration of the current government team, PP and Vox, remains unresolved pending Friday’s plenary session, as well as a possible question of confidence that the mayor of Burgos, Cristina Ayala, should raise if her accounts are unsuccessful. not. this week.

The Treasury Advisor and President of the Commission, Ángel Manzanedo, explained during the press conference following the meeting that the opinion was negative: Vox and the PSOE voted against it after refusing to accept the proposal. Invoice of Vox to strengthen the positions for children, youth and the elderly – so as not to “alter” the initial budget, according to Manzanedo – and that the president imposed his criteria in the debate of opinion.

The Treasury advisor explained that in this case a “transfer of positions” was carried out without modifying the total of the initial budget by transferring the necessary funds from the mayor’s subsidy position to those corresponding to these three NGOs in Burgos.

At Burgos town hall, everyone is waiting for Vox’s next action. “From there to the plenary session, there is a long process of several days to determine certain things,” said Manzanedo, who did not want to “venture” on the next steps that the far-right party and , therefore, the PP could undertake.

The Socialist Party maintains its leadership by tending towards an agreement with the Popular Party if it breaks with Vox, recovers the agreements it had until 2023 on Democratic Memory and restores 100% of the funds intended for Development Cooperation that he has already cut for the 2024 budget. They also claim to be in 50% agreement on the future modification of budget appropriations and, in this way, they commit to “ facilitate » approval of the current budget. “These are minimum conditions and with this the budget can be published. “My offer remains valid until the budget is approved,” says the former mayor and spokesperson for the Municipal Socialist Group, Daniel de la Rosa, in statements to this media.

The Popular Party – which affirmed for days that if it governed alone this aid would not be withdrawn – rectified last Thursday the veto of aid to the NGOs ACCEM, Burgos Acoge and Atalaya Intercultural, after Cáritas renounced its help if it was exclusive and thousands of people demonstrated at the gates of the town hall in favor of coexistence and social inclusion of the immigrant population.

Last week, the mayor of Burgos refused to “break” the “stability” implied by her coalition with Vox, who will now have to decide whether to reject the budgets and leave municipal government. Ayala could present a motion of confidence to approve the 2025 municipal budgets if Vox refuses to support the accounts, as former Palencia mayor Mario Simón did in 2022.

This afternoon, during the plenary session of the Cortes de Castilla y León, the socialists will ask the president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, his position regarding support for NGOs that work with migrants.
