Warning sirens sounded in Tel Aviv, Hamas claims rockets were fired

In Réim, at the Nova festival site, electronic music resounded again before observing a minute of silence.

On Monday morning, in Réim, at the site of the Nova festival massacre, where more than 370 people were murdered, the ceremony to honor the victims began to the hypnotic sounds of the last music heard in this place, a year before.

After echoing for a few minutes, the music was abruptly cut off, as it had been on the day of the attack. An anguished cry then broke the silence among the crowd of grieving families. Many people were crying and some wore the faces of their murdered loved ones on their clothes.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog, present at the scene, met with the families of the victims. The kaddish, the prayer for the dead, was read by several parents who lost their children at the Nova festival.

As relatives of the deceased lit candles, echoes of artillery fire and a helicopter in flight could be heard from the nearby Gaza Strip.

The Reim ceremony is the first in a series of commemorative events that will take place throughout the day while the country remains at war in the Gaza Strip, and now also in Lebanon, where the Israeli army launched, a week ago, a ground offensive against the Islamist Hezbollah movement.
