The Ministry of Health has issued an appeal to private medical institutions operating in Azerbaijan.
Oku.AzAccording to information released by the Ministry, according to Article 14-1.1 of the Law “On Medicines”, the prescription of biologically active food products (BAQM) is prohibited.
It should be noted that, in accordance with Article 14-1.3 of that law, whenever the brand name is written on biologically active food products and in the instructions for use (inserts), below the brand name, a clear and distinguishable white, black background of the same size and font as “NOT A MEDICINE!” shall be placed, indelibly printed in large, bold letters. Writing the words is mandatory.
“In order to comply with the requirements of the above-mentioned legislation on the subject and to eliminate factors that may cause negative situations, in order to prevent the inclusion of biologically active food products in prescriptions issued by medical personnel entitled to issue prescriptions in private medical institutions, within the competence of the Center for Analytical Expertise, educational, preventive and legally defined, we would like to inform you that in connection with the transition to the electronic prescription system, during scheduled and unscheduled inspections in private medical institutions and pharmaceutical organizations, prescriptions issued by medical personnel entitled to issue prescriptions, as well as prescriptions based on it, will be strengthened control to detect cases of sale of BAQM,” it reads.
