Washington’s unfair position towards Azerbaijan: Human rights or Armenian whims?

A new wave of pressure has been launched targeting the South Caucasus region of the United States and Western Europe. It is no secret that geopolitical expectations are behind the threats and attempted sanctions applied not only to Azerbaijan, but also to neighboring Georgia. Until yesterday, Washington, which considered Tbilisi its main ally in the region, cannot digest the independent policy of the Georgian government. Because this independence not only contradicts the policy of the West in relation to our region and our neighbors, but also obscures the future destiny of this direction.

“Caspian” The newspaper published an article on the subject.

The US senators played themselves and themselves.

We are used to the fact that the West’s excuses, such as “the decline of human rights, civil liberties and democracy”, are geopolitics in disguise. Although this injustice that has been applied to us for more than 30 years has different faces, the essence remains unchanged. Now new “demands” such as the “immediate release of Armenian captives” and the “return to Artsakh” of Armenians who voluntarily left Karabakh have been included on the menu. It is not necessary to explain and demonstrate to Washington the lack of logic and meaninglessness of these “demands.” First, they are powerless and unwilling to listen to arguments different from their position. And secondly, it is not necessary for them: the process continues in the format of a monologue, not a dialogue. American government officials, congressmen and senators played and played themselves.

We know what interests lie behind Washington’s unfair position towards Azerbaijan. The fact that Amendment 907, in effect since 1992, was directly repealed by the president every year during the US campaign in Afghanistan shows that the true intention has nothing to do with the “human rights situation.” Furthermore, why should the United States determine the dimensions of human rights around the world? Or why not start from their Guantánamo prisons?

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev He rightly calls this hypocritical policy of the West ignorance: “We are firmly against any sanctions and I believe that the international community should express its position in a unified manner. We express this position in relation to all sanctions applied against us at the national level. , and not only against us, sanctions were imposed on us in 1992, when the territories of Azerbaijan were under the occupation of Armenia. They were removed when they were supposed to be in transit every year until I fled Afghanistan. , I don’t think it was the harshest word to use in that context.”

Human rights or Armenian whims?

In recent years, the hardening of the reaction against the United States in various corners of the world, the rapid change from unipolar to multipolar format, is based on the unfair attitude of the West towards countries that do not agree with its policies. Everyone is already aware that, depending on the interests of the United States, its attitude towards this or that state changes radically. In 2008, neighboring Georgia faced the reality of actually losing some of its territory due to the adventurous politics and whim of the West. As soon as the current government wanted to bring its relations with Russia to a normal level for the sake of national interests, the faces of Americans began to change. The “bastion of freedom” of the South Caucasus has suddenly become the place where “democracy is suffocating.”

However, for some reason, this paradigm does not work in all states. We have condemned the United States and the collective West for decades for attempting to undermine, cover up, and legitimize Armenia’s occupation of Azerbaijani lands. Over the years, we have paid little attention to a very important point. Today, Armenia has officially become the “daughter” of the beloved sycophant of the United States region. The West covers this with the “democratic” nature of Pashinyan’s government. Did Washington make threats or threats of sanctions against the authorities of villains like Kocharyan and Sargsyan? During the Kocharyan-Sargsyan era, Armenia was a regional outpost and gendarmerie of hostile Russia. Armenian companies were repeatedly exposed in the sale and transit of prohibited products to Iran. But have we ever seen fingers trembling in Yerevan?

Sanctions are a stick in the hands of the West

Everyone knows that sanctions and embargoes are a stick in the hands of the West. The lack of teeth and the helplessness of these personnel are felt more clearly every day. Countless restrictions have been imposed on Russia for more than two years, but this is not enough to compensate for the fiasco on the Ukrainian front. It is the people of Ukraine who are under our feet. Sanctions against Tehran have been in place for more than 40 years, but they have not stopped Iran from producing ballistic missiles.

This hypocritical and thankless approach by the collective West is rightly amplifying the backlash effect around the world. States and people are realizing that acting together, not alone, against this injustice can have a greater effect. International organizations like the BRICS and the Non-Aligned Movement did not emerge out of nowhere. The main objective of the desire to consolidate nations with greater economic potential is a joint fight against the unjust policy of the West.
