The President of the Government and the President of the Valencian Generalitat have sent a message of unusual unity within the Spanish police. After the reproaches of the opposition leader and the doubts conveyed by the Central Executive due to the temporal management of the Government’s alerts, Pedro Sánchez and Carlos Mazón presented themselves together from the Integrated Operational Coordination Center (CECOPI) of the Valencian Community.
“Thank you very much, dear president, for your rapid presence and for your closeness,” Mazón said to Sánchez after the visit to the affected areas and the meeting with those responsible for the operation. The tone and message of the Valencian president of the PP contrast with the harsh words of Alberto Núñez Feijóo this Thursday, in which he criticized the Central Executive for not sharing any information on the progress of this operation. His party colleague and head of the regional executive, however, expressly thanked the President of the Government for the cooperation and assistance of the central administration and the various ministries.
Pedro Sánchez also spoke after the visit, which began with a warning message to citizens asking them not to let their guard down. “DANA continues, don’t leave your house. The most important thing is to save as many lives as possible,” asked the president.
Sánchez reiterated “his maximum commitment to the Generalitat Valenciana” as well as “all possible resources for as long as necessary”. “We are sending a message of absolute collaboration and cooperation. If you need additional resources, the Spanish government is there. We are not going to leave the Valencians alone. The priority is to first find the missing, then devote all resources to reconstruction,” he stressed.
Before, in the morning, the leader of the PP also went to the Valencian Community to defend the management of the President of the Generalitat and attack the central government during the DANA which, in the last hours, cost the lives of 95 people, including 92 in the community of Carlos Mazón.
Feijóo described the storm as a “national emergency” which, in the case of the Valencian Community, “is managed with information from another public administration”, in reference to the central government. The opposition leader established himself as coordinator of the regional presidents of the PP and PSOE, questioned the information from AEMET and highlighted the work of the regional authorities: “Pride in the way they worked will last us forever,” he says.
