Europe is becoming increasingly dependent on China for technology. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has urged Europe not to repeat mistakes such as those made with Russian oil and gas.
“We were too dependent on Russian gas and oil, and now we are repeating the same with China for many technologies, which is a big mistake.” – said Mette Frederiksen in an interview with The Financial Times.
She believes that Europeans need to change “our attitude, our way of seeing the world, which is based on peacetime.” The Danish Prime Minister believes that Russia would not be able to continue its military defense in Ukraine without the help of China.
The British publication spoke to Mette Frederiksen at the forum, where the Secretary General of Taiwan’s National Security Council also gave an interview. Jose WuHe suggested that rather than simply focusing on developing its own industry, Europe could reduce its dependence on China by creating a “democratic and sustainable supply chain” with “like-minded partners” such as the United States, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan.
Wu confirmed that Europe is talking about the risks of China, but at the same time is investing in China and expanding its business there. According to the Bundesbank, German direct investment in China has increased significantly this year.
