The German president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is willing to ask the Bundestag for a vote of confidence in the Government of Olaf Scholz.
Steinmeier stated today, November 7:
“If the Bundestag withdraws confidence in the Federal Chancellor in accordance with Article 68 of the Basic Law, then I am ready to accept such a decision. In our constitution, this decision is made under certain conditions. But our country needs a stable majority and a government that can act. This will be my criterion.”
