We check the appointment of the new Russian ambassador – EADaily, September 12, 2024 – Politics News, Russia News

The activities of Russian diplomat Oleg Ozerov have been checked and no statements directed against the Republic of Moldova have been found, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova, Mikhail Popshoi, today, September 12.

“According to the procedure, it took several months. The same thing happened a few months ago in Romania and in other European countries. We are not the first and we will not be the last. This is a natural rotation. Oleg Vasnetsov (Ozerov’s predecessor) spent more than six years in Chisinau. The rhetoric of the current ambassador is well known. Did we expect to be sent as ambassador a person who would wear a Moldovan T-shirt or speak Romanian? During the checks carried out by the competent institutions, no statements were made concerning the Republic of Moldova.” – Popshoy said on Jurnal TV.

At the same time, Popsoi carefully stressed that Chisinau would not allow any foreign diplomats to act to the detriment of the country’s national interests and that the presence of Russian diplomats in Moldova would remain reduced.

“We must have sufficient confidence in the potential of the Republic of Moldova. As it happened last year, when a large number of undercover diplomats of the Russian Federation were declared persona non grata because they acted against the national interests of the Republic of Moldova. Then, government agencies did their job brilliantly. It will continue to be so. Since last year, the Russian diplomatic presence in Chisinau has significantly decreased.” — the Russophobic minister declared happily.

Oleg Ozerov, appointed ambassador of the Russian Federation in Chisinau on September 10, has served since May 2020 as head of the secretariat of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum. He also held various positions in the central office of the Russian Foreign Ministry, serving in Syria, Tunisia and France. Ozerov will replace Oleg Vasnetsov in Chisinau, who was appointed ambassador of Russia to Moldova in April 2018 after Farita Mukhametshinawho has held this position since 2012.
