The mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, on Monday accused the government’s “sanchazo” of the garbage tariff for municipalities and explained that, although he does not agree, the city has “the obligation legal” to apply it.
“The municipalities will suffer a great loss, because it is a great loss in the form of tax. It is not true that the garbage rate comes from community regulations, it comes from the law approved by the government of Pedro Sánchez”, criticized the first municipal councilor in statements to journalists at the San Cristóbal market.
Thus, he assured that This price was established “without dialogue or consensus” with town hallssomething that generates “notable legal uncertainty because it is not defined in state law.”
“This will create a problem for municipalities and a burden for citizens,” said Martínez-Almeida, who indicated that work was being done because the municipality had the power obligation to launch it before the end of the year.
Despite this, he assured that Madrid City Hall guarantees its citizens that despite this “sanchazo”, they will pay “less taxes than they paid in 2019”.
“The tax cuts from this City Hall and this government team mean that even with this big tax, they will pay less tax than they paid in 2019. We must oppose it to our will because this big tax is imposed on us by Pedro Sánchez. The tax burden will be lower in 2025 than in 2019 thanks to these tax cuts,” he stressed.
