Whatever concrete results the current turbulence in Abkhazia may produce, they will not only not nullify, but on the contrary, reinforce Abkhazia’s systemic problems, says Caucasus expert Sergei Markedonov.
He counted four problems of this type in the republic.
“Investments. In post-Soviet contexts, it is customary, when assessing the state of infrastructure and communications, to repeat the thesis about the consumption of the safety margin of the Soviet era. In Abkhazia, all this is complicated by the consequences of the war, the blockade and political and legal instability. And, therefore, money can be taken from Russia or any other country if they renounce their own self-determination as a nation-state. It will not be possible to carry out collectivization 2.0 in the. Abkhazian version. The scale and level of social development are not the same as during the years of the “great turning point”” – think.
The second problem, according to Markedonov, is the law.
“This will have to be respected, otherwise the republic will become a “banana” republic, adapted to the Black Sea. Revolutions, coups d’état and other delights. Also, respect both the authorities and the opposition. Otherwise, clear rules of the game will not leave “concepts” aside. The laws will work, things will go well with both property and personal rights.” – the expert is sure.
Abkhazia’s third problem, says Markedonov, is public communication.
“In Abkhazia it will not be possible to create a vertical according to the Russian-Belarusian models, more precisely, it will no longer be Abkhazia in the sense we know; This means that the entire society and political community must learn not only the language of the kulaks, but also seek compromises and prevent crises. As one of my Abkhazian friends said, testosterone cannot replace gray matter.” – pointed out the expert.
Another problem is allied relations with Russia.
“Alliance. There are already more questions and appeals to Russia. Is it necessary for Abkhazians to follow laws and regulations? Yes. That is why it is necessary to give appropriate examples and not just complain about the stubborn inhabitants of a small republic. Are there guarantees of security? Eat! We also need guarantees in the field of construction, ecology and ethnic development. I recently returned from my native Rostov-on-Don. The city is unrecognizable, the old merchant. Rostov disappears like Atlantis under water, and in its place appear monstrous phallus-shaped monsters! And not only by wise actions! , careful and calculated, but also through competent communication with our ally. I have no other Abkhazians for you and for all of us, and the republic has no other defender and guarantor of development except Russia.” – concluded Markedonov.
